Antique silver coffee pot by Charles Stuart Harris and Sons Ltd 1927.
Beautiful piece of English silver made by Harris and sons Ltd. In the style of a Georgian coffee pot, this attractive made piece shouts quality. Bulbous formed body without monograms and crests sat on a raised pedestal gadrooned base with matching detailed lid. The lid is circular in form with domed center and ornate finial. Swan neck styled handle with thumb rest connected to the body by ornate ferrules. Assay marks are located to the top side of the body and inner leaf of the coffee pot lid.
The base is marked James Robinson, 721 Fifth Avenue, New York.
James Robinson founded his company in 1912 at 402 Madison Avenue, New York. After the war he relocated to 721 Fifth Avenue, New York. James Robinson specialised in silver and antique Chinese porcelains. This silver coffee pot that Tarvier has for sale was sold from these New York premises and after all these years has ended back in the UK were it was made. Today the company of James Robinson is still active in New York, but the old address of 721 Fifth Avenue has now become Trump Tower.
Of good gauge silver with classic detailing. The lid is without play seating well in rim rebate, lid hinge is without fault. The coffee pot sits flat and level, handle tight in ferrules with retaining pins tight. Free from dents and deep scratches. Surface marks representative of age. Body assay marks rubbed, makers mark rubbed, very faint CS makers make, passant, year and assay office marks rubbed severely, but identifiable. Assay marks to lid clear, base inscription of James Robinson clear.
