Early Victorian pair of repousse sterling silver candlesticks by Thomas Bradbury and Son 1839.
Delightful pair of matching candlesticks with all elements complete. These silver candlesticks are adorned with detailed repousse work depicting floral detailing. The base areas feature flora scroll work leading to leaf aspects wrapping around the candlestick column. The capitals are enfolded in leaves and segregated from the column via a splay of foliage. Detachable sconces crown the candlesticks with floral perimeters. The sconces are hallmarked by Sheffield assay office with a full set of assay marks along the base perimeters of each candlestick.
Both candlesticks are in very good condition, the candlesticks sit flat and level with green felt to bases to protect surface damage. Sconces are both tight in seatings with the outer top rim of each candlestick having one small dent, of little detriment and unseen due to sconces coving when in position. The detailing is all good to candlesticks with a little rubbing to the detailing. Assay marks to sconces all good and clear. Base perimeter assay marks all rubbed with most parts legible, the lion passant mark has been rubbed past recognition. The candlesticks carry the duty mark of William IV who died in 1837. It is not uncommon to have a previous monarch's duty mark overlap by a few years, the date letter is its provenance. Please note that these candlesticks are filled and weighted.
